Great flick, Kevin Smith can write some excellent dialogue. I loved the scene in the boardroom when Matt Damon told the one lady he spared that she got off light for not saying bless you when he sneezed.

My thoughts on men who Body Build
by kls inmy two son's are body builders and i am wonering if they think they can take on the world .
last year my son was in a bar fight and got sucker punched in the eye which required 5 stiches ,now my 21 year old comes home with a huge black eye, the biggest i have ever seen trying to break up a fight.. .
now both these people that got a good shot at my kids where men much smaller in stature and size and seemed to land good punches.

Abaddon, I give you credit that you will answer questions posed to you, which can sometimes be a rare commoditiy around here. I have, and most bodybuilders (I will leave powerlifters out of the mix, though I think you were referring to olympic style lifters which tend to be less developed than powerlifters, many powerlifters are almost indistinguishable from bodybuilders, and many compete in both bodybuilding and powerlifting events) I know have no problem with the natural "normal" physique, and most appreciate sport specific physiques such as gymnasts, swimmers, wrestlers and the like.
It seems to me that most of the anti bodybuilding tripe I have listened to over the years came from people who had feelings of inadequacy regarding their body or were fairly pathetic specimens. I do not think less of a person with an average or below average build, I evaluate a person's worth on the type of person they are, until they start trying to tell me how worthless and bad bodybuilding is, and why would you want to look like that, etc. then I get annoyed.

Abaddon, I have seen many anti-bodybuilding/powerlifting (BB/PL) folks over the years and I have always wondered what made them tick. Care to give some insight as to why that particular pursuit seems to draw your ire? I have my own theories but I'd like to hear from you where this intense dislike for the pursuit comes from.
As far as denial of freakishness I have never seen that in the BB/PL community, rather they embrace it. It makes them feel good that they are not weak, and either scrawny or fat, they love it when clothes don't fit properly. I love the little digs as in "adult babygrows" to describe the clothing worn by those of the species that are large, which I think pretty much tells me why you dislike BB/PL so much but I'd still like to hear from you what bothers you so much about the whole pursuit.
Also, it appears to me you are now shifting the arguement from BB/PL being more aggressive to steroid users being more aggressive, which may or may not be true, the "evidence" you provide is not very persuasive to say the least.

What funny "Saying" do you sometimes use?
by JH inhere in quebec, one funny expression people say is "donne a manger a un cochon, et il viendra chier sur ton perron" .
word for word in english this would mean: feed a pig, and he will shit on your porch.
in other words, sometimes you try to be nice to people, and they don't always try to be nice to you in return.. .

How much science we take on "faith"
by Big Dog inno real point here, just a funny thought popped in my head as i was reading yet another thread where people were being hammered with scientific facts and theories and i was nodding my head agreeing with the rational fact based explination when a thought occured to me: i take quite a bit of science on "faith".. what i mean is this, when i am reading the explination of particle physics, quantum mechanics, or molecular biology i have to take it on faith as i can't do the mathematical proofs and so on to verify what i am being told and i assume that is the case with most of us non-rocket scientists, and probably even many in the fields of science and technology.
i like science, i enjoy reading discovery magazine and trying to keep up on the latest techno advancements, but i realized how much of it i take on "faith" as i have no way to verify or disprove what i am being told by a scientist.
i recall einstein saying once that something like 6 people in the world truly understood the implications of his work.. so if you want to argue "faith", i'd say that many that believe in science have just as much faith as those that believe in religion.

Stilla, I can guarantee you he didn't want to be there. He said it was like being attacked by a pack of rabid wolves. The whole process appears to be pretty pitiless and brutal from what I saw of it.
I will say the guys (or ladies) that put their theories out there have a set of stones on them because as has been pointed out their peers seem to take great delight in poking holes in their work.

Six of Nine, there is a book or at least an article on exactly what you are talking about, it is called the Adonis Complex where bodybuilders percieve themselves as being scrawny even though they might be huge in exactly the same way that anorexics see themselves as fat no matter how skinny they are.

Tetra, I hear you, I watched my brother in law get ready to defend is dissertation in Polymer Science and it was not pretty. I totally get the scientific method and see its results, just that for most of us its sort of vodoo since we just can't understand it.
Its a sense of wonder, maybe that's a better way of saying it than faith, when we see anything we don't fully understand but realize that is real. I get much the same feeling when watching some incredible athletic feats, you just sit there and say, well, I saw the guy do it with my own eyes but I just can't believe the human body is capable of that, mine sure isn't.

REM, I agree, that's why I'm no Luddite, I see the space shuttle and my pc and so forth and realize that yep, though I can't do the math to calculate the proper launch trajectory for a rocket its obvious someone can, and it works!
Faith was the best word that I could come up with to use though I realize I am using it loosely, but that's what I would call what I have in a surgeon that is about to cut me open, I have faith that he knows what the heck he is doing and so on.
But I'll make the font bigger so no one thinks I am some reactionist who wants to go back to the stone age, lol. Just saying because most of us can't do it, we have to take it on "faith" (someone pick a better word and we'll go with that).
